When people talk about “life changing” experiences or actions, I always used to think it must have been some massive event!
But over the years I’ve learned that?every little step you take can change your life, for better or worse.
I have made so many strides toward a happy and fulfilling life, with some big decisions made along the way, and it’s all thanks to these 5 daily habits!
I literally live by these rules, they are not just a part of my day anymore, they are a part of me. I’ve seen the differences between when I stick to them and when I don’t, and I’ve learned how much easier things can be if I keep it up!
I want you all to give these a try, an honest try, and see how it impacts your life!
They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit, so commit to changing your days for one?month, and see what these small habits can do for you!
5 Daily Habits That Can Change Your Life
1. Morning Quiet Time
I spoke about this the other day in the post How One Morning Changed My Life, but words really cannot describe what this habit has done for me!
I used to wake up and instantly be in a bad mood, feeling rushed and overwhelmed before I’d even gotten dressed. I used to say that I just “wasn’t a morning person”…now I get up at 4am daily and enjoy every minute!
Taking the time to be alone and sit quietly, with my thoughts and a hot cup of tea, has changed all that. By the time my family is up I feel renewed, optimistic, and in control!
Not only that, but I feel like I actually have more hours in the day since I’m able to put them all to a more positive use, and get way more done!
2. Keep Moving!
Get up, get out, and do something!
Seriously, walk around, stand while you work, strike a yoga pose in your kitchen!
Do whatever it takes to keep the blood flowing and your energy high! Not only will this help your health, but the extra release of “happy hormones” will improve your mood too!
Next time you’re stressed…skip it out! I kid you not, it is?impossible to skip and be mad!
3. Get Better Sleep!
Note the key word in this one is?better, not necessarily?more!
Getting more exercise throughout the day will help, but a couple of extra tips wont hurt, right?!
- NO electronics 30 minutes before bed! This means TV, cell phones, computers, all of it gets turned off 30 minutes (or more) before you go to bed!
The blue light emitted from these devices simulates sunlight, throwing off your internal clock. You’ll notice it is much easier to get to sleep quickly after practicing this for just a few nights.
- Listen to your body! If you find you wake up throughout the night, see how you’re actually feeling at that time. Don’t worry about what time it is and that you think you are?supposed to be sleeping, how do you feel?
You’re body goes through cycles?of deep and light sleep throughout the night.
If you find you have woken up and are feeling like it was easy to get up, get up! Don’t force yourself to go back to sleep because of what the clock says!
You can also track your sleep patterns, try getting up earlier, going to bed later, experiment. Then record?how you feel in the morning and through that day to see what amount of sleep works best for you.
There are even a few sleep cycle apps you can get for your phone where it tracks your sleep cycles and wakes you up?at the optimal time (your lightest sleep) within a certain amount of time of your alarm (set by you)!
- Keep your room dark and cool, perfect settings for deep sleep!
4. Write It Down!
Proper planning and organization is key to de-stressing your days!
I use the last 30 minutes before bed (after I’ve turned off my electronics!) and plan out my to-do list for the next day.
Waking up in the morning, knowing exactly what I have on my plate, and starting with quiet time just for me…there’s just nothing better!
5. Keep a Gratitude Journal!
Keeping a gratitude journal is a perfect way to set up your day. I write in mine during my quiet time in the morning, just 2 or 3 things that I am grateful for, always something different.
Doing this sends me into my day with a positive mindset, and much more likely to approach difficult situations keeping the positive in mind, instead of feeling like?another thing is going wrong for me!
It’s so important that we actually take the time to appreciate what and who we have in our lives. It goes by so quickly that most people don’t ever realize what they have because they are too busy trying to get more!
This is a great practice to introduce your children to as well, to show them the importance to being grateful for all they have!
