What is an “I SPY Book” you may ask (if you grew up under a rock, ah-hem!)…we’ll I’ll tell you!
I SPY books are pretty much the best thing ever when you are a kid!
Basically, they are books filled with pictures of jumbled objects. The goal is to find a certain picture in the mix of it all! Like a “messy toy” version of Where’s Waldo!
These were always a fave of mine when I was younger and I’m so excited that Maddie seems to like it as well!
You can personalize yours if you want and take pictures yourself, or using mixtures of items around the house, toys, etc.
But I did mine the easy/lazy way (because I’m awesome like that!) and found my images online!
I went the online route because I was lacking the time/patience/general brain power that day to do it the other way! It all worked out perfectly though, Maddie loves it, so win-win!
I put Maddie’s together in a way that allows her to start with simple pictures (easy to find/items she knows well), and then move on progressively to more difficult ones as she works her way through the book!
Adding “cut outs” of the images she’s looking for not only gives her a visual to associate with the written word, but encourages her to pay attention to detail in matching the items to the larger picture!
This book has proven to be a great way to calm her down as well when she’s running full tilt and there’s no stopping in sight!
Do you have any childhood favorites you’ve put your own spin on for your kids?
