If you haven’t seen this latest video from Dove (the Dove Choose Beautiful Campaign), I’ve attached it below for you to check out.
I never thought a video like this would hit me the way it did, but to be honest, I was pretty choked up by the end of it.
I never really thought much about how I saw myself, and neither did these women, until they had to confront their self-image issues head on and classify themselves as “beautiful” or “average”.
This short but powerful video really highlights the insecurities many of us suffer from.
So much so that I immediately start questioning which door I would choose.
Which Door Would You Choose?
The interesting thing is, I don’t think that these choices were made based on each woman’s definition of beauty though, but more the fear of judgement by others.
I have no doubt in my mind that each of these women is confident about certain parts of themselves, as well as insecure about other parts. But when it comes down to it, I think they were more worried about what people would think of them if they chose “beautiful” and didn’t fit the bill.
Too often we place more emphasis on others’ opinions of us than our own, and it’s a major problem.
Not only are we putting unnecessary stress on ourselves with this unhealthy mindset, but are causing detrimental damage to our children’s self confidence by the example we’re setting.
We all want strong and confident children, who don’t care what anyone else thinks. Who do what is right, and what makes them happy, no matter what others think.
We also know (when we stop kidding ourselves!) that kids never do as you say, they do as you do!
Start setting an example of confidence, in your beauty (inside and out), and yourself, now! Today! A soon as you finish this sentence!
Leading by example is the only way we can instill a strong self-worth in our children, and hopefully our children’s children!
